The battlefield today
The site, which stretches down to the banks of the River Avon, has largely been farmed since the days of the battle but much of it was transformed in the second half of the 20th century when a sand quarry was operated by Cemex, until 2000.
After that, much work was done by the multi-national to regenerate the area with tree planting.
This has created a haven for wildlife and a place many townsfolk use for recreation – including walking, cycling, and wild swimming in the lagoon, created by the quarrying.
However, Cemex have been trying to sell the land to housing developers for a number of years. Currently local campaign group Green Battle Linlithgow is trying to stop the land being used for housing.
